Domestic Violence:

Arkansas Definition

Arkansas domestic violence law refers to "domestic abuse" and does not seem to address the emotional or psychological harm to domestic violence victims.

(A) "Domestic abuse" means:
(1) Physical harm, bodily injury, assault, or the infliction of fear of imminent physical harm, bodily injury, or assault between family or household members; or
(2) Any sexual conduct between family or household members, whether minors or adults, which constitutes a crime under the laws of this state.
(B) "Family or household members" means spouses, former spouses, parents and children, persons related by blood within the fourth degree of consanguinity, any children residing in the household, persons who presently or in the past have resided or cohabited together, and persons who have or have had a child in common.

In 2000, there were 17 domestic violence homicides in Arkansas.
Arkansas ranks among the top three states in domestic homicides.
Arkansas is ranked first in domestic violence homicides for African-American women in the United States.
In 2000, there were 847 rapes reported in Arkansas.
The most common locations for the rapes was the victim's own residence.
