Domestic Violence: Let's Talk!  Let's Change! Domestic Violence

Domestic violence affects 4 Million women each year. Domestic violence occurs about every 9 seconds in the United States. Domestic violence is the power and control of one partner over another in a dating, marital or live-in relationship.Domestic violence also refers to a pattern of violent and coercive behavior exercised by one adult in an intimate relationship over another. Domestic violence is not marital conflict, mutual abuse, a lovers quarrel, or a private family matter. Domestic violence may consist of repeated, severe beatings or more subtle forms of abuse, including economic entrapment, psychological pressures, or physical isolation.

We must understand that the pains and effects of domestic violence can go much deeper than the physical abuse to the victims.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 95% of domestic violence victims in America are women, although men may also be victims.

Women of all cultures, races, occupations, incomes, and ages experience domestic violence and are battered by husbands, lovers, boyfriends and partners.  One in four pregnant women has a history of domestic violence.

Domestic violence doesn't always begin with physical abuse - Know the warning signs of possible domestic violence.
